Myofascial Release Massage Therapy
Myofascial release massage is a safe and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into any restrictions of the myofascial connective tissue. Fascia or connective tissue actually connects and surrounds everything in your body (including individual muscle cells) in one continuous network. It is likened to an inner-body suit of soft tissue. The web-like organization of fascia means that when tightened or strained, it affects all areas of the body causing unrelenting pressure, tightness, and lack of mobility in specific areas of the body. There may be a presence of hard points in the tissue, commonly referred to as “knots.” These “knots” may be caused by repetitive motions or overuse of certain muscles as with office body issues, playing a musical instrument, poor posture, athletics, trauma, or surgery.
Pain and Restricted Motion Challenges
Because the tensile strength of fascia is extremely strong, the tension and pain caused by fascial restrictions can wreak havoc on your skeletal alignment, joints, and entire body systems. Fascial problems can actually produce pressure of up to 2,000 pounds per square inch. That is the equivalent of a small adolescent elephant balancing on one toe on your pain point!
Fascial restrictions cannot be detected by standard medical tests such as MRIs, xrays, or blood tests. So often, traditional medical patients are left with pain, discomfort, and no solution. Myofascial release massage therapy eliminates pain and restores motion by removing the “knots”. The myofascial release technique incorporates an essential “time element” usually lasting 1-2 minutes, based on the John F. Barnes approach, which allows for the most sustainable change. The use of myofascial release allows us to look at each patient as a unique individual. Your sessions are highly customized each visit to accurately address specific patterns in your alignment that gradually surface over the course of your treatment sessions.
My one-on-one therapy sessions are hands-on therapeutic massage treatments during which I use a multitude of myofascial release techniques, as well as other body healing massage techniques. I promote patient independence and life-long wellness through education in the following:

A Myofascial Release Therapy Session
Each myofascial release therapy session is performed directly on skin without oils, creams or machinery. This enables the massage therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia.
Over time with regular treatment, chronic patterns of tension held in the fascia or connective tissue are released. Through a series of 4-6 sessions, a steady progression of release and well-being can occur. Specifically helping to reduce pain, heal injuries in the tissue, melt deep restrictions, increase flexibility and energy levels, and restore balance to your alignment.
