1.    John F. Barnes, Authentic Myofascial Release (MFR)

It is a deep but non-invasive sustained pressure applied to free up fascial restrictions; What is Fascia? It is a spider web-like layer of connective tissue which covers every cell from head to toe, like an “inner body-suit.” While it provides support and flexibility, when restricted it can affect every part of the body. Although fascia is largely ignored by modern medicine, the correct release of fascial restrictions can resolve problematic cases of pain and dysfunction throughout the the muscular skeletal system, viscera, and all major body systems. MFR is not a form of massage, there is no oil or lotion used. Releases occur by applying gentle sustained pressure into the restriction, leading to permanent elongation of the tissue. It’s a whole body and mind experience promoting a truly comprehensive healthcare plan.

2.    Orthodpedic Massage

myofascial releaseThis is a specialized medical massage technique which utilizes carefully applied frictioning stroke to reduce the formation of fibrous scar tissue. The increased blood flow allows the recovery time from injuries to be reduced. As a result, weakened ligaments can be strengthened by the realignment of fibers in the tissue. Orthopedic massage uses no oil or lotion, the friction stroke is applied for 10-20 minutes at specific ligament sites. Pressure is applied according to the patient’s level of comfort.

3.     Deep Tissue Massage

Using a variety of massage strokes and techniques can all be incorporated to create a thorough session that is conducive to the elimination of toxic buildup in muscles and soft tissue. It is important to observe proper hydration prior to, as well as, after the massage session.  Contraindicated conditions which do not respond well to deep tissue massage need to be addressed prior to scheduling the massage appointment. These include: high blood pressure, diabetes, pregnancy, acute injuries, and certain arthritic conditions during flare ups.

2. Micro-current and Alpha-stim

These treatments utilize low level electric currents and infrared light to help reduce acute pain symptoms. When they are applied directly to an injury site, pain relief can begin immediately.  Electrotherapy applications are also used to soften and mobilize post-surgical scar tissue.  They can be incorporated during or prior to your massage therapy session. Electrotherapy treatments are performed under supervision of Dr. Elliott Alpher at the Metropolitan Craniofacial pain center.
