About the Practice

Amanda Donis therapeutic Massage uses principles of relaxation combined with a whole body, therapeutic hands-on treatment to address specific injuries, traumas, and the resulting chronic pain patterns that affect your comfort and quality of everyday life.

The primary focus used in my practice is a holistic approach to manual therapy using John F. Barnes, Myofascial Release therapy in combination with deep tissue massage, therapeutic exercises and stretching. The therapeutic solutions I offer primarily include hands on work, and can also include electrotherapy and laser light treatments. This eclectic combination of modalities facilitates and enhances healing. Additionally, the patient is actively involved in managing their own style of pain free living through valuable educational materials, exercise and stretch techniques.

Amanda Donis

Amanda earned her Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Spanish language at the University of Colorado, Boulder in 1992. Amanda then went on to graduate in 1997, from the Advanced Fuller School of Massage Therapy in Virginia Beach, Va, where she completed her certification and licensure requirements to practice Therapeutic Massage. She served in Americorps VISTA and the U.S. Peace Corps for 3 years prior to beginning her full time work as a Massage Therapist in Washington D.C. She is a member of American Massage Therapy Association (AMTA) and actively involved in the local D.C. AMTA chapter.

In the Metropolitan D.C. area, Amanda has worked in a variety of clinical settings as a licensed massage therapist including Chiropractic, Osteopathic, and Physical Therapy offices. This has provided her with invaluable exposure to a wide range of pain and soft tissue issues. Over the past several years, Amanda has pursued specialized training with John F. Barnes, Authentic Myofascial Release technique (MFR), Orthodpedic massage for the ankle and foot, and Total Motion Release training with PT, Tom Delanzo-Baker.

The core of Amanda’s practice is the quality time devoted to each patient regarding their preferences, needs, and health issues for that day to ensure a highly individualized treatment.  She believes true healing has to come from within each person’s desire and style of recovery. Her massage sessions offer an eclectic combination of modalities. She uses John Barnes, Myofascial Release work as the starting point then, intersperses the session with deep tissue massage strokes, soft tissue mobilization techniques, therapeutic stretch and exercises.

Amanda’s long time practice of Yoga has helped her gain valuable insight and understanding about alignment issues and the corresponding patterns of soft tissue restriction.  In her personal time, Amanda loves the outdoors, swimming and surfing in the ocean, studying music, and continuous pursuit of education for professional and life skills.
